The Hebrew word for stone is made up of the words “father” and “son” sharing one common letter (bet) meaning house. In other words as father and son are united in the house, they are rock solid.
We are living in a generation of fatherlessness, with so many either being raised without a dad, or with a dysfunctional and disconnected fathers. As that happens, there is a missing factor in their lives, and they are not rock solid.
A study conducted on the Hawaiian island of Kauai over 30 years found that 5 out of 6 delinquents with an adult criminal record came from single parent households. A 1987 UCLA study found that drug use rates among teens doubled in homes without a father.
Our world is crying out for fathers to step up in their homes, to lovingly lead their families.
And for so many of us who have been raised in dysfunctional families, it is time for us to find refuge in God as “the rock”. I believe Father God wants to reveal Himself in a deeper and more personal way to you and I as a Father, filling the vacuum left by our own dads, and building in us a strength to be everything we were made to be.
Would you pray this simple prayer with me?
“Father God, I come to you now in the Name of Jesus. Firstly, I forgive my dad for where he was not as present or loving in my life as he should. Father God, help me to see myself the way you see me. Father, what are you saying about me? How do you view me?”
Take some time to listen for His answer and allow Him to speak to you as a Father in your life. You may need to do this prayer again and again over the days and weeks ahead to truly allow His truth and love to replace the hurts and lies built into your life. And as such, He will build a new rock solid foundation in your life.
