God didn’t say “go”, He said “come”

In Exodus 10:1 we read of God telling Moses to return to Pharaoh and announce another devastating plague.

While our Bible translations will use the words “go in to Pharaoh”, the Hebrew literally says “come”.

What’s the difference?

“Go” would imply that God is sending Moses into the confrontation with Pharaoh alone, reliant on his own strength and ability.

Yet “come” tells us a different story. It reveals that God is already there, waiting in the palace for Moses to “come”. In other words, God has already gone before him, is preparing the way, and will be there to protect Moses in the coming confrontation.

When God sends us, we can trust that He is already waiting for us at the most challenging part of the journey. Right there in Pharaohs palace we can find refuge in His presence, knowing that He has not left us alone. In that very moment, His presence will give us the courage and strength to face the Pharaohs of our lives and ultimately see the victory of the Lord.
