Positioned for Revelation

The Lord appeared to Abram. ..
Gen 18:1

We all want God to appear to us. We want fresh revelation, fresh understanding of who He is. But a key aspect of Abram receiving His revelation was his attitude of preparedness.
He was sitting in the opening of his tent in the heat of the day. It was hot, and unpleasant yet Abram kept a look out.
According to Jewish tradition this happened only days after his circumcision, and he is still in pain. Yet despite his pain, despite the heat of the day and sheer exhaustion, Abram is watching and ready. As soon as he sees his three surprise visitors appear, he immediately jumps into action. He runs out to meet them, bows down to them and invites them in.
Abram was prepared, he was ready. He was hungry to serve.
God reveals Himself to a man, who is hungry and thirsty for Him – are you?

Abram then offers water, food and a place to rest. He is ministering to the Lord and creating a place where He is inviting God’s presence to rest and reside. Have we created a space for God to dwell? Have we prepared room and offered Him a place of rest? Do we insist that He stay with us, or do we let Him pass us by?
Abram ends his offer by saying, “for this is why you have come to your servant”. You have come to be refreshed, come to stay with me for a little while. Abram wasn’t seeking God simply for what he could get, he was seeking to give. He wanted to refresh God, to bless God and was not seeking for anything in return.
And as a result, God stopped and fellowshipped with Abram, and during this meal clarified His promise, making clear that Abram was going to have the promised son through Sarah. In that moment, prophetic revelation was revealed changing his perspective on his situation and enabling him not to settle for second best (Ishamel) but to receive God’s highest and best (Isaac).
Again, we all want Isaac, we all want the blessing of God in our lives in its fullness, but are we ready to minister to Him first? To prepare a place for Him to rest and be refreshed?
