The Antidote to Fear is to Remember

“If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’ you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh” Deut 7:17-18

Israel could be intimidated and fearful as they pondered the task ahead. They were about to conquer the promised land, a land of abundance and destiny, but also a land inhabited by strong nations, fortified cities, and fearsome giants. In the natural, Israel stood no chance.
In our text, the original Hebrew mentions the word fear once, and repeats the word remember twice, literally saying “remember remembering what God did “. To overcome fear, they were to doubly remember the past miracles of God. In other words, the miracles of the past were not only answering yesterday’s need, but also give strength and perspective for the giants of today.

As we get ready for our ministry trip to New Zealand, we have some very real giants laying ahead of us. In and of themselves these giants also look impossible, but the God who made a way for this trip around Australia, the God who provided our caravan and has done many many miracles along the way, is giving us courage for the journey ahead.

God also wants to give you courage and faith today for any obstacles that are in your way. Just remember to keep on remembering His past miracles, as they will give you new courage and perspective for the challenges of today.
