“[The land] flows with milk and honey…. however… . ” Num 13:27
A little over 1 year ago, started the greatest adventure of our lives. We left behind a business to step into full time ministry, pursuing God’s promised call on our lives.
This “promised land” for us includes speaking in a lot of different churches across our nation. It is such a privilege to see people being deeply touched by our message and our prayers.
However…. our “promised land” also includes many giants. There’s the challenges of living day to day in a caravan with very limited space, the uncertainties of the journey ahead, unexpected opposition and many personal challenges as a family.
The Hebrew word translated “however” in our bible passage gives rise to the modern hebrew word for “zero”. In other words, as the spies focused on the challenges of the promised land, it nullified the joy and excitement of what God had in store for them, leaving only a sense of hopelessness and despair.
As you and I step out to follow God’s call, it is not unusual to encounter “a land full of giants”. In those moments it is so tempting to focus on the “howevers” and as we do our faith and courage quickly turn to zero.
While the challenges are real, we must always keep our eyes on the One who has called us, and also on the beauty of the promised land He has for us.
