Does God still love you when you fail? How does God the Father see you when you fall into sin or struggle with old habits? And could wounds from your earthly father be affecting the way you experience God’s love?
In this practical Christian teaching, Ps Enoch Lavender explores the Father Heart of God and the surprising way our Heavenly Father responds when we fail. Rather than responding with rejection, condemnation and shame, God invites us to come home, receive His love and discover our identity as His children.
Many Christians know intellectually that God loves them, yet still struggle with shame, self-doubt, addictive behaviours, striving or the feeling that they are never quite good enough. Sometimes the problem goes deeper than simply changing our behaviour. There can be a wounded place within us that is still searching for the affirmation, security and love of a father.
In this video you’ll discover:
- How God responds when we fail
- Why God’s love isn’t based on our performance
- How father wounds can influence our view of God
- What the Prodigal Son reveals about the Father’s response to sin and failure
- How shame and rejection can become deeply rooted in our identity
- The importance of forgiveness and bringing painful memories to God
- How hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit can bring healing
- Why destructive habits can sometimes point to a deeper unmet need
Ps Enoch also shares a vulnerable moment from his own life. During a season of discouragement and temptation, he was afraid to approach God because he felt he wasn’t doing well. Yet instead of the rebuke he expected, he sensed the Father saying: “I am proud of you.” Those unexpected words changed something. Rather than having to strive his way out of failure, he began to discover the security and peace that comes from knowing the Father’s love.
This teaching also looks at Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son. The son returns home carrying the consequences and shame of his choices, yet his father runs to meet him. His failure is real—but failure is no longer allowed to define his identity. Perhaps your own experience with your earthly father involved anger, criticism, absence, rejection or the feeling that you could never measure up. Those experiences can influence how you imagine your Heavenly Father responds to you. But your earthly father’s response does not define your Heavenly Father’s heart.
This episode includes a guided time of prayer to help you bring father wounds, painful memories, shame and unforgiveness before God and invite the Holy Spirit to reveal the Father’s heart to you personally. The message is ultimately one of hope: when you fall, God has not given up on you. Your worth is not determined by your performance. You are invited to get back up, come to the Father and discover who you are as His child.
