As I share my own story of overcoming addiction in my life, many men come to me for prayer over similar issues.
While their stories are too sensitive to share in public, a common thread is that their lives are built in an unhealthy way on the women in their lives and they are constantly seeking affirmation and love from them. While this is well and good when the relationship is going well, sooner or later such a relationship is doomed to fail.
The Bible says “cursed is the man who trusts in man” (or in this case woman).
In Genesis 17 we find the antidote. God says “I am El Shaddai, walk before me and be blameless/complete”.
One of the meanings of El Shaddai is “The God who is Enough”.
People will never be enough. They will never fill our every need, and our problems start as soon as we set our expectation on someone else than God to be the “shaddai”.
But as we turn back to God, and set our full hope in Him as our source, we find that He truly is enough. Enough to fill every need, enough to sustain us, enough to renew and sustain us and give us strength for each day ahead.
And as we walk before Him in this way, He says “be blameless (or complete)”. In other words, as He becomes our true source of security, comfort and love, then we are made whole. Then that gaping wound in our life, that crack in our foundation that lead to these sins in the first place is healed – enabling us to walk holy and blameless before Him.
