One time when Sarah and I were travelling ministering, I had forgotten to bring a belt for my pants. I didn’t technically need the belt either, my pants were fitting just fine.
But sometimes things in the natural world represent a spiritual reality, and spiritually speaking i wasn’t wearing a belt either.
What do I mean? A belt spiritually represents truth, and there were areas of my life where i wasn’t fully walking in the truth with my wife. Yes she had some of the truth, even most of it, but there were things i was holding back, personal struggles which I didn’t want to share. At one meeting on this ministry trip, I suddenly began to feel really unwell, and I had to put my sermon on pause to lie down. Something was obviously wrong.
Yes, we were ministering in a place known for witchcraft and occult activity, but these things can’t touch us if we are wearing our full spiritual armor. And because I wasn’t wearing my belt – spiritually – I was vulnerable to the enemy.
Since that time, I have learned the lesson. I need to always wear my belt. I need to always walk in the truth with my wife, sharing with her the highs, lows and even my struggles. And as I do, we can stand together and face the enemy’s assaults. And through God’s grace and by wearing the armor He has given, it can no longer touch me. So now, each day as I get dressed, I quickly reach for my belt and put it on – reminding myself in the process of the need to walk transparently in the truth.
What a blessing and what a protection I have found in wearing this belt.
Are you wearing your belt today?
